What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine embraces the science of modern health care combined with a holistic approach. Functional Medicine is quickly gaining popularity and is highly regarded by world-renowned practitioners. The Cleveland Clinic, recognized as one of the top medical centers in the US and around the world, partnered with the Institute for Functional Medicine to open a Functional Medicine clinic founded by Dr. Mark Hyman. The Institute for Functional Medicine is the global leader in Functional Medicine education and sets the gold standard for education, training, and clinical practice.
Functional Medicine is a personalized, systems-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to collaborate and achieve the highest expression of health by finding, and addressing the underlying root cause of disease. Each patient care plan is as distinct and unique as each patient. The relationship between patient and practitioner is a partnership. The practitioner becomes the educator, mentor and coach to help the patient heal through lifestyle, nutrition, exercise, emotional, and behavioral changes.
The practitioner starts by learning every aspect of a patient’s medical history and then conducting individual biochemical, genetic and environmental research to obtain a deeper knowledge of the patient’s health status. This information helps to identify the underlying root cause of the patient’s symptoms. Specific treatment plans can then be made. The number one, most important key to successful elimination of disease states is the patient’s motivation and willingness to make changes.
Healthcare across the globe is undergoing drastic changes right now. We will see massive paradigm changes over the coming years but already people are starting to realize – the patient is the doctor of the future. If you are ready, we are here to guide you on your journey to health.
What should I expect at the first consultation?
At your first visit, you will be given an opportunity to discuss your personal health goals with Dr. Faherty. This will be an opportunity for both of us to determine if our services are a good fit for you. We ask that you bring any pertinent medical records, supplements, medication and lab test results with you. We will determine together your level of readiness to make necessary lifestyle changes, an we are a good fit to meet your goals. If you are not the financial decision maker, we ask that you bring your significant other with you to the consultation. Expect the consultation to last for 60 minutes. If you are a good candidate for our programs we will go over next steps.
Does your office take insurance?
We do not accept insurance or Medicare for our services. We can provide a receipt for services or a Super Bill if requested for Chiropractic services.
Is lab testing covered by insurance?
We have learned that the majority of insurance companies do not cover the cost of lab testing, therefore we have negotiated reduced costs with the lab companies we work with. On average, you should budget $300 – $1000 for all functional labs, which typically include GI Map, and stress / cortisol testing. The information provided in these tests can save years off of recovery time by giving us the information we need to address the root cause of symptoms.
Do you offer financing services?
We offer financing through Advance Care. Advance Care offers an interest-free (for 6-12 months) credit card that will cover the Essentials Program costs as well as any labs and supplements you may need.
What are your office hours?
Our office hours are by appointment.
Does your office accept patients that live in a different state?
Yes, we can work with any person in any state. If possible, we recommend that your first appointment is done in person. If that’s not possible, we can do your first appointment and all subsequent appointments on the phone or video conference such as Skype.
Do I still need a primary care physician?
Yes, we do not provide acute care services and we do not replace the services that your current medical team provides such as prescribing prescription medication.
