Instructions

Stool Test Instructions

    • Test requisition form

    • Vial with red preservative

    • Disposable gloves

    Please read all instructions carefully before beginning.

  • Write your first and last name, date of birth and collection time/date on the vial with a permanent marker. On the test request form, fill in the patient information section, and test information. Fold this form and place in the open side pocket of the plastic biohazard ziplock bag. Either include a check for the amount indicated for the test made out directly to the lab, or complete the payment information section on the form to use a credit, debit, or HSA card.

  • Put on the disposable gloves. Collect specimen using the collection container. Careful not to contaminate with urine or water from the toilet.

    Remove the cap from the vial and using the attached spoon, take multiple portions from different areas of the stool sample until you fill the vial to the “fill line.” Screw on the cap tightly.

    Shake the vial vigorously for 30 seconds to mix the stool specimen with the preservative in the vial. Dispose of the remaining specimen, gloves and collection container appropriately.

  • Place the vile into the ziplock section of the biohazard bag and seal it. Put the biohazard bag (with vial and test request form) inside the white shipping box. Place the shipping box inside the FedEx mailing bag and seal the envelope.

    You can either call the FedEx number on the envelope to let them know you have a package with a prepaid shipping label (they will come to pick up), or you can drop off the package at our office and we’ll arrange for pick up.

Results normally take 14-21 days to come back.

Organic Acids Test Instructions

    Please read all instructions carefully before beginning.

    • It is best to ship your specimen within 24 hours of collection.

    • Decrease fluid intake to avoid excessive dilution of the urine » For adults, restrict intake to three 8 oz. glasses or less for 24 hours » Make sure that no more than 8 oz. of this is consumed after 8:00 PM the evening prior to urine collection

    • Avoid the following foods/drinks 48 hours prior to sample collection:

      • Alcohol, coffee, tea, caffeine/caffeinated drinks, fruit juices, apple, avocado, banana, chocolate, cheese, citrus fruit, cranberry, grape, kiwi, pear, pineapple, plantain, plum, tomato, walnut, pecan, vanilla

    • It is not necessary to discontinue medication, however, please stop all nutritional supplements 48 hours prior to specimen collection.

    • Females, do not collect urine during menstruation.

    • Vial contains preservative – Do Not Rinse

    1. Write your first and last name, date of birth, gender and date of collection on the Test Requisition Form (located in the pouch on top of the Specimen Collection Kit Box), as well as on the clear-cap plastic vial, using a permanent marker.
      IMPORTANT: To ensure accurate test results you must provide the requested information.

    1. Empty bladder before going to bed at night. Do not collect this urine.

    2. Collect urine (if any) during the night and first morning urine into a clean container.

    3. Pipette urine, using a fresh disposable pipette, into the clear-cap plastic vial to the 12 ml mark (DO NOT OVERFILL). Screw the cap on tightly.

    4. Dispose of remaining urine.

    5. Freeze the clear-cap plastic vial and ice pack.

  • Place the frozen sample into the ziplock section of the biohazard bag and seal it. Put the biohazard bag (with ice pack and test request form) inside the shipping box. Either include a check (staple to form) for the amount indicated for the test made out directly to the lab, or complete the payment information section on the form to use a credit, debit, or HSA card.  Place the shipping box inside the FedEx mailing bag and seal the envelope.

    You can either call the FedEx number on the envelope to let them know you have a package with a prepaid shipping label (they will come to pick up), or you can drop off the package at our office and we’ll arrange for pick up.
